Ik ben werkzaam in loondienst als gezinswerker en werkzaam als zelfstandig ondernemer als haptotherapeut in een eigen praktijk in Leeuwarden. Ik houd van mensen, van taal, van muziek, van sport. Ik schrijf graag en heb in 2009 het boek: Cochleaire capriolen - gehoor in beweging, geschreven. Het delen van wat slechthorendheid en doofheid voor betekenis heeft, is iets wat ik belangrijk en ook mooi vind om te doen.
- Implanted AgeOlder AdultHearing LossSlowly ProgressiveImplantedRightIn de afgelopen twintig jaar ging mijn gehoor steeds verder achteruit en voelde ik me langzaam maar zeker eenzaam worden. In de zomer van 2017 kreeg ik een cochleair implantaat waarmee ik weer terug ben in de horende wereld. Mijn slechthorendheid is een erfelijke kwestie en het komt bij ongeveer de helft van mijn broers en zussen voor en toch merkte ik het in het begin niet meteen dat ik ook slechter ging horen. Het was vooral mijn vrouw die me erop wees.
- Implanted AgeAdolescent TeenHearing LossSince BirthImplantedLeftOp dit moment ben ik werkzaam op de Radboud Universiteit in Nijmegen, waar ik een promotieonderzoek doe naar het begrijpend lezen van internetteksten bij dove/slechthorende leerlingen en leerlingen met taalontwikkelingsstoornis. Ik ben zwaar slechthorend geboren en mijn linkeroor ging zo achteruit, dat mijn hoortoestel op een gegeven moment niet meer bruikbaar was. Ik ben in een horende wereld opgegroeid, heb horende vrienden en heb regulier onderwijs gevolgd.
